recap

I've been a little MIA lately and I blame it on the incredibly busy month of August.

I moved...then got delayed because they had to completely re-do our wood floors
(cue anger, annoyance, and 2 nights out of our new place)

then my brother finally got married! woohoo! it was a whirlwind weekend but it was full of fun, laughter and tears (mostly mine) so I'll never forget it. I love his new wife (my sister!) and they just moved a block away from me so it's going to be fun to have them so close.

Stickers from UPrinting for the gift bags for those staying in the hotel.
yes i blurred out their names...the stickers didn't look fuzzy or blurry. promise!

And finally...if I have to see an Ikea or Target in the next 2 weeks I will black out. I have spent countless hours and dollars at these stores following the move and I'm exhausted!
No more, please!!!

Although, I'll definitely take another Ikea cinnamon roll!

So that's where I've been for most of August. Sorry for being such a slacker!

Now to catch up on everyone's blogs....

shower of love

Pictures from A & B's shower. It was a huge success!

My mason jar DIYs with beautiful sweet william flowers.

I didn't take pictures of the Bubble Bar. I'm so sad! But you can see the corner of it with the champagne...

The signature drink: Anne-gria white wine sangria. Delicious

The room!

I'm sad it's over, but it was fun and I loved making the decorations!

Shower Tablescape

Inspiration for our July shower we're hosting...
prepare to see a ton of future DIYs

Love the look of the leaves in the vases. Planning on using shorter cylinder-shaped vases.

LOVE these. Thinking about hanging them in the trees along the walkway and off the balcony. Now to decide the color scheme...

Napkin Rings. Self-explanatory.

Big fan of mason jars. Big fan of twine. Together? Perfect.

Planning on using as candle-holders with votives.

Any other lovely suggestions?

Personal Gifts: Wedding Showers

I think it's hard to get a great Shower gift. Sure everyone has registries today and what's more personal than a Kitchen-Aid Mixer? Uhhh...

If you have a little bit of leeway with your gift choice I think it's a great idea to give a personal and useful gift! Here are a few of my recommendations.

For the Bride who likes to spend time in the kitchen:

1/2/3

For the Bride who loves to entertain
1/2/3

For the Bride who loves all things monogram

For the Bride who loves to travel

I'm not getting married anytime soon but I'd happily own any of these items!

Shower Ready

Wedding Shower that is.

I'm on the hunt for multiple dresses for this summer. I have two wedding showers and a rehearsal dinner for my brother's wedding.

I want sweet, feminine dresses that can do double duty in the future...I'm thinking anything I can throw a blazer over and wear to work. It shouldn't be that hard, right?

Martha, Martha, Martha

Definitely just had a flashback to the Brady Bunch episode and Jen saying "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!"

Well Martha, you've done it again. You've made me believe I can be incredibly crafty and talented as you. How do you do that?

By actually being better than all of us. That's how.

The past couple of weeks I've been scouring websites and Etsy for perfect invitations for A's (bro's fiance) bridal shower we're hosting. I can never find quite what I'm looking for. It's been an annoying search, that's for sure.

But Friday, my luck changed. I stopped by Michael's to look for some dye (long story) and ended up in the Martha Stewart Crafts section. HOLY SMOKES. Every little thing you could imagine. And it looked so neat and perfect. I then thought to myself, "well wait, if Martha makes everything why can't I?" Fast forward to uh about 20 minutes ago and I'm in the process of deciding if I want (should, can, will) to hand-make all the invitations. It's only 35 people, so not an enormous amount to send out, but still a challenge.

I'm thinking a perfect piece of cardstock + embossing + flair (yeah still not sure myself) could equal the best bridal shower invitations ever. ever? yikes, here i go getting carried away

Can I do it as good as Martha? uhhh...can anyone?

I mean just look at the embossing powder section! Hello, options.

We'll see what happens...

Are you a Martha Stewart Crafts fan? Have you ever made your own invitations? Am I already in the deep end!?

Wedding Weekend

The day is finally here for L & B!

Tomorrow is their wedding at the quintessential Chicago hotel, The Drake.

I know it's going to be a fabulous day for them. I'm so excited!!

I'm thinking about wearing this dress...if not I have a back-up Cynthia Steffe in my closet.

We'll see what happens!

What is everyone up to this weekend??

Have a great one!

Wedding Weekend

Thanks for all of your comments about what to wear for the wedding!! I went with the strappy heels, necklace & the dress strapless. The wedding was beautiful and we had such a blast!

I ended up putting my hair in a bun and wrapped one of my Anthropologie sparkly hair ties around the bun to add some sass to it. I pinned those crazy pieces down as you can see I snapped the pic while putting pins in.

My camera died in the middle of the reception (grreaaaat) so I have to wait for my friends to send me their pics so I'll have more.

Big Congratulations to the happy couple!!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I was busy with the wedding, an architectural tour of the best city, movie date Life As We Know It (very cute!) Bears game and lunch with the cutest 5 month old around. I loved having the holiday off and relaxing.
