Easy Embossing

A while back I decided I was going to make the invitations for my brother & his fiance's shower. This then prompted a visit to Michael's and assisting Ms. Stewart in adding to her ridiculous fortune. I will hand it to her...I wanted every single one of her craft pieces.

ANYWAY... I've decided that I'm going to emboss the invitations. Not the entire invitation as that would take so much time (and mini letters) but an image and then A's name on the invite.

In the middle of buying a bunch of stuff for these invites I found adorable initial stamps (you know my weakness for my initial...) so I bought a bunch for my family and friends. I then made them some cute stationery that was so easy to make and if I do say so myself, effortlessly cute.

The finished product. A nice surprise to send J!

Stamps for my friend J's stationery. Plus the stamp pad that is clear and acts like a glue for the powder.

1. Firmly press the stamp onto the embossing pad, then onto your card. Be careful not to roll the stamp back and forth.

Pretty embossing colors!

2. Sprinkle embossing powder over the stamped image on your card. Dust off additional powder surrounding the image. Anything you leave on the paper will adhere so this is very important to do!

Funny looking heating tool...

3. In circular motions holding the tool 2-3" above the image, go over the embossing powder until it sets. You will be able to see it change before your eyes.

Finished product!

I love the way embossing looks because it is raised off of the paper!

Have you ever embossed or used different methods to design cards and stationery?

I'll be sure to do a post of the invitations I make. So far I've narrowed it down to the design including a peacock feather!

Martha, Martha, Martha

Definitely just had a flashback to the Brady Bunch episode and Jen saying "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!"

Well Martha, you've done it again. You've made me believe I can be incredibly crafty and talented as you. How do you do that?

By actually being better than all of us. That's how.

The past couple of weeks I've been scouring websites and Etsy for perfect invitations for A's (bro's fiance) bridal shower we're hosting. I can never find quite what I'm looking for. It's been an annoying search, that's for sure.

But Friday, my luck changed. I stopped by Michael's to look for some dye (long story) and ended up in the Martha Stewart Crafts section. HOLY SMOKES. Every little thing you could imagine. And it looked so neat and perfect. I then thought to myself, "well wait, if Martha makes everything why can't I?" Fast forward to uh about 20 minutes ago and I'm in the process of deciding if I want (should, can, will) to hand-make all the invitations. It's only 35 people, so not an enormous amount to send out, but still a challenge.

I'm thinking a perfect piece of cardstock + embossing + flair (yeah still not sure myself) could equal the best bridal shower invitations ever. ever? yikes, here i go getting carried away

Can I do it as good as Martha? uhhh...can anyone?

I mean just look at the embossing powder section! Hello, options.

We'll see what happens...

Are you a Martha Stewart Crafts fan? Have you ever made your own invitations? Am I already in the deep end!?

I Have a "Following" Problem..

I can't help it! It seems like every time I stumble upon a new blog, I fall in love. Now, I know it's not 100% true because there are many I have never returned to (probably what some of you are thinking right now...) but I've been loving everything lately. Everyone is so darn creative & interesting!

Since I'm new to the blogging world I'm trying to get the hang of it. I absolute LOVE reading all the comments people leave and then heading over and checking out their blogs. Which, guess what, I normally adore.

I've been making lists of things to write and I feel like I'm in creative overload right now. Which is a good thing b/c in 10 days I'm going to be done with the bar exam and waiting for my results and a job. Let's not think about that though...back to happy thoughts :)

I also want to give a shout out to my first follower and the first blog I starting following: http://ilikeitdt.blogspot.com/

She had me at infused vodka ;)

So fellow bloggers, how long have you been blogging for? How do you keep up the inspiration? Are there certain blog posts you love reading about? And more importantly...lemme know some fab blogs to check out!

Happy Blogging, everyone!
